2019 Turnabout Races Sailing Instructions:
Firecracker, Norma Smith, Pratt's Island, Cedarbush
June 29, July 13, July 27, August 3, 2019
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
2.1 Open to juniors and adults sailing turnabouts.
2.2 Boats will register by hailing the committee boat when entering the starting area.
3 NOTICES TO COMPETITORS
3.1 Notices will be placed on the SYC Racing Board.
4 CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
4.1 Any change to the Sailing Instructions will be posted before 1100 on the day of the race.
5 SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
5.1 Signals made ashore will be made at the SYC clubhouse.
6.1 There will be no skippers’ meeting.
6.2 The time of the first warning is scheduled for 1300. The first start will be at 1305. Subsequent races will be held as soon as practicable after the end of the previous race.
7 COURSE and Marks
7.1 Courses will be announced by the race committee signal boat. All marks will be orange drop marks.
8 Starting and FINISH LINE
8.1 The start and finish line shall be between the orange flag on the signal boat and a nearby orange drop mark. All Divisions will start together.
8.2 The start will be a three minute sound system start.
9.1 The Race Committee will attempt to hail the sail numbers of OCS boats after the starting signal. The failure of any boat to hear the hail, the hail of some but not all OCS boats, the untimely hail of some or all OCS boats, or failure to hail any or all boats, shall not be grounds for granting redress. This changes RRS 62.1
10 PENALTY SYSTEM
10.1 The Two-Turns penalty as defined in RRS 44.2 will apply to infringements of Part II, Right of Way Rules.
11 TIME LIMIT
11.1 If no boats finish the race within 60 minutes the race shall be abandoned. Any boat not yet finished 30 minutes after the first boat has finished shall be scored DNF without a hearing. This changes rules 35, A4 and A5.
12.1 Protests shall be delivered to the race committee within 30 minutes after the signal boat docks. The protest time limit and a list of protests received will be posted on the notice board. Hearings will be held as soon as practicable after the race in a location specified on the notice board.
13.1 The Low-Point Scoring System, RRS A2 will apply, modified so that each boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores with her worst score discarded if 5 or more races have been completed. See Rule 90.3b.
14.1 Protests shall be delivered to the race committee within 20 minutes after the race committee boat arrives at the dock. The protest time limit and a list of protests received will be posted on the notice board.
15.1 All yachts are requested to check-in with the Race Committee before the start of the race by sailing past the RC signal boat on starboard tack and hailing their sailing number, and receiving confirmation from the Race Committee, or by calling on VHF channel 72.
15.2 A yacht that retires must notify the RC as soon as possible.
15.3 All competitors, shall wear, while on the water, other than brief periods while adding or removing clothing, an approved PFD (US Coast Guard or Canadian), except where ORC regulations apply.
16 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
16.1 Competitors participate in the regatta entire at their own risk. See RRS Rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
17.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance.
