1                RULES

1.1            The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

2                Entries

2.1            Open to juniors and adults sailing turnabouts.  There will be two divisions.  A Junior division that is open to all sailors up to age 18.  Those sailors under the age of 18 who are paid to teach or coach sailing should sail in the adult division.  The adult division is open to all sailors including younger aged sailors who would like to race with the adults.

2.2            Boats will register by hailing the committee boat when entering the starting area.

3                NOTICES TO COMPETITORS

3.1            Notices will be placed online and on the SYC Racing Board.

4                CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

4.1            Any change to the Sailing Instructions will be posted before 1100 on the day of the race.

5                SIGNALS MADE ASHORE

5.1            Signals made ashore will be made at the SYC clubhouse.

6                SCHEDULE

6.1            There will be no skippers’ meeting.

6.2            The time of the first warning is scheduled for 1300.  The first start will be at 1305. Subsequent races will be held as soon as practicable after the end of the previous race. 

7                COURSE & MARKS

7.1            Courses will be announced by the race committee signal boat. All marks will be orange drop marks.

8                STARTING & FINISH LINE

8.1            The start and finish line shall be between the orange flag on the signal boat and a nearby orange drop mark. All Divisions will start together.

8.2            The start will be a three minute sound system start.

9                RECALLS

9.1       The Race Committee will attempt to hail the sail numbers of OCS boats after the starting signal. The failure of any boat to hear the hail, the hail of some but not all OCS boats, the untimely hail of some or all OCS boats, or failure to hail any or all boats, shall not be grounds for granting redress. This changes RRS 62.1

10              PENALTY SYSTEM

10.1         The Two-Turns penalty as defined in RRS 44.2 will apply to infringements of Part II, Right of Way Rules.

11              TIME LIMIT

11.1         If no boats finish the race within 60 minutes the race shall be abandoned. Any boat not yet finished 30 minutes after the first boat has finished shall be scored DNF without a hearing. This changes rules 35, A4 and A5.

12              PROTESTS

12.1         Protests shall be delivered to the race committee within 20 minutes after the signal boat docks. The protest time limit and a list of protests received will be posted on the notice board. Hearings will be held as soon as practicable after the race in a location specified on the notice board.

13              SCORING

13.1         The Low-Point Scoring System, RRS A2 will apply, modified so that each boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores with her worst score discarded if 5 or more races have been completed. See Rule 90.3b.  Awards for all races will be presented following the racing each weekend weather permitting.  Awards will be made to the top skippers in the junior and adult divisions.

13.2      The Race Committee reserves the right to score a junior division separately, with both fleets starting together.

14              SAFETY

14.1         All yachts are requested to check-in with the Race Committee before the start of the race by sailing past the RC signal boat on starboard tack and hailing their sailing number, and receiving confirmation from the Race Committee.

14.2         A yacht that retires must notify the RC as soon as possible.

14.3         All competitors, shall wear, while on the water, other than brief periods while adding or removing clothing, an approved PFD (US Coast Guard or Canadian), except where ORC regulations apply.

14.4    All participants shall comply with Maine’s  regulations to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

14.5    All participants shall (when applicable) maintain 6’ distance apart on floats and ashore, or wear a face mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

16              DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

16.1         Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk.  See RRS Rule 4, Decision to Race.  The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

17              INSURANCE

17.1         Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance.
